[PLANNING] 1st Modcrafters' Monthly Modnight

I could start a bunch more individual voting threads for M3's template, but at this point I think we ought to work out the rest with the first M3, see how it goes, and adjust from there.

Speak now, or complain later. =oP

    Date: September 5th, 2009
Start Time: ? (how early and what timezone?)
End Time: ? (until we stop, or should we have an established window where people can expect to find people to play with?)
Mod Pack: ? (suggest/vote on individual mods, or have a theme, or something else?)
Version(s): ? (determined by mods -- should a modnight be restricted to a single version?)

Side Idea: M3 tournaments. This could be a part of M3, or another event altogether. Each tournament could be waged in a single chosen mod, or every round could take place in a different mod for variety. Like any other gaming tournament, players would compete 1v1 to determine a final victor. Losing players would get a chance for redemption in a second bracket. Victory could be decided by one game or best out of 3, depending on the amount of competitors and time constraints. The champion would earn mad props, be admired for their leet skillz, and be immortalized in a Champion's Hall thread. I might even implement a medal system on the forum to commemorate the achievement. This idea could be the main feature of M3, with personal games on the sideline; a small, casual facet of the freeform games from traditional modnights; or its own organized event if people feel it doesn't belong or is too big/complicated for M3.

Re: [PLANNING] 1st Modcrafters' Monthly Modnight

10pm pacific, atleast, if not later. Cause I will probably be with friends.
Meh who cares about until, come when you can, leave if you must.
I think we should try to stick to the same version if we can, unless the majority wants to play something else.
Play what the people want, also new mods, to encourage new modders to keep going and not be lazy!

That is all I have to say.

PS: pardon my grammar, i dont care.

I think that would be a great idea for use with Conquest -- games go by quickly, taking about 15 minutes for 1v1 games. We can easily create a sign up list and use Hamachi as a chat channel.

Re: [PLANNING] 1st Modcrafters' Monthly Modnight

Start Time: 6pm EST....
End Time: ....till whenver everyone wants to stop. Some nights last an hour, some last 8 hours.
Mod Pack: Since it's the first, I suggest we go for older mods like SC:FC, AoE SE, and whatever the oldest LA mod is.
Version(s): Whatever is needed. Patching up and down is so easy these days it shouldn't be an issue.

Mod Pack:
Let's start with a tribute to old modders, such as Rhino with his Ultimate Doom mod. I would like to think Lord A as eligible for the title of "old modder," and Voyager, and maybe a few other people. I think we should take the best mod from each "old modder" and include it in the mod (this could go by what the public thinks as the best of the "old modders," or we could even go by whichever mod the "old modder" had retired with or declared to be his/her best work).

I don't think many people here have played any of my old mods, like BoTC or UF or MFTGATRL. You should try those out sometime. I can make them available.

Re: [PLANNING] 1st Modcrafters' Monthly Modnight

Please do. That would be awesome.

EDIT: Also, could we please play Code: Xanadu next M3? It's only a week or so from completion, so I know it'll be done in time.

I have some of Iskatu's older mods >.> I suggest we don't play UF unless we want to burn our retinas... However, I have yet to see BoTC on Iskatu's download page. MFTGATRL is a good choice though.

I'd prefer we stick to older mods.

Re: [PLANNING] 1st Modcrafters' Monthly Modnight

Too bad I don't have any working versions of my mods from 1999-2000ish. Or any of the mods from back then at all. Some of those would have been fun to play.

TZ, finish up your mod first, then we can talk.

Idea for a house rule: No turtling or "Hide-the-Depot". Reason: Prolongs games, shortening the total amount of matches possible in a night, and anyone who arrives after a turle-match has begun ends up waiting for far too long. I don't see turtling/hiding as healthy to our once-a-month event.

Agreed. I've had to specifically change mods I've made just to discourage this type of play.

Re: [PLANNING] 1st Modcrafters' Monthly Modnight

I don't mind turtling as much - it can be interesting (and even a viable strategy) in larger FFA matches. For lower level players its often the only way they can stay in game long enough to see the mod :P But I totally agree on banning the "hide-a-depot" bullshit. Remember SCFC? Having to trap the invincible workers with your units was a huge pain in the ass.

Re: [PLANNING] 1st Modcrafters' Monthly Modnight

Turtling in a casual or PUG game is one thing, but given this event will only happen one night once a month, it's vital we don't draw out games unnecessarily. Think of ProGamers who have an audience watching. When they know they're beat, they GG and resign instead of making their opponent kill every last building. It's a level of professionalism and sportsmanship we'll want during M3 to get in as many matches with as many people as possible. If matches aren't fun due to one person's misplaced pride, people take off to do better things with their time.

During M3, I would encourage all new players to learn a mod through multiple games instead of one protracted match.

I've never played Undying Fury, I want to play that. The Retard Lords would be fine as well.

I've been informed that this version of UF functions better than the current.

I'll have Code: Xanadu and a SEKRIT PROJKT done for M3, if anyone's interested. Code: X just needs some balance work and a few custom GRPs, the sekrit mod is currently in the final polishing stage.

I might miss M3 because I'm going to my GF's party on Saturday and I don't know when I'll be back. If I do, my brother will play in my place.
